Ms. Carin's Walk Ms. Carin walked along the street, waving to her neighbors and smiling at them. She had long, auburn hair and light grey and blue eyes that always seemed to look at everything at once. The path was made of cobblestones and there were flowers growing on the sides, brightening the road up with cheerful color. This matched the theme of color in Daringful Town. Ms. Carin carried a plate full of lemon icebox cookies and dragged a cooler filled with drinks along too. A leaf blew from a tree in front of her. “Marina Street. Oh, that’s where Annabelle lives.” she said, checking her note. Ms. Carin had a british accent and wore long pants and t-shirts, because she said, “Comfortable clothes are better off for you than pretty ones.” Today she wore overalls with a pink t-shirt underneath it, matched with big, dangly hoop earrings and a yarn bracelet. “Hi, Ms. Carin! What are you doing here?” asked Emerald, a girl with-well emerald eyes! “I’m going to Annabelle’s house.” Ms. Carin said warmly. “Are those lemon cookies? Yum.” A big smile stretched all over Emerald’s face. “Yeah, they are. Good guess!” Ms. Carin said. “Well, I got to go now! See you later!” “See you later! Bye!” Ms. Carin continued her walk along the path to get to Annabelle’s house. When Ms. Carin reached Annabelle’s neighborhood, she looked around to make sure she wasn’t lost. She figured out she wasn’t and walked up to Annabelle’s door and rang the doorbell. She waited a few moments, and then the door opened and another young woman came out, beaming at Ms. Carin. This was Annabelle. She had bright white blonde hair tied up in a ponytail and sky blue eyes that sparkled when she smiled, complimenting the look. “Kathleen!! Hi! I was expecting you!” Annabelle greeted her cheerfully. Kathleen was Ms. Carin’s first name. “Annabelle! I missed you so much! There were some new women in town that wore huge dresses that did not really fit with me, they were all bragging about how rich they were. Ugh.” Ms. Carin shivered at the thought of it. “Oh, really? New dazzlers? I thought our town had enough of them.” Annabelle cocked her head sideways in surprise. Dazzlers were what they called people who were always boasting and being vain. “Come in and sit! In the living room we go!” she said, pulling Ms. Carin and her freezer inside. The cool air from the fan was a nice change to the hot sun blazing down at the earth. “Phew! It was hot outside! Good thing I wore a t-shirt.” Ms. Carin said, fanning herself. She expertly put her long, wavy hair into a tight bun, letting the air cool her neck down. Once she was settled, she pulled out the drinks from the cooler. “Why don’t we have a nice drink of coke and then talk?” she suggested. “That’s fine with me.” Annabelle shrugged. Ms. Carin tossed her one of the cokes and flicked open the lid of her own. They both took a long drink. The coke was ice cold and quenched their thirsts. Annabelle licked her lips, and said, “That hit the spot. It’s really hot outside. Just before you came, I went on a walk and wow… it was so hot.” “Felt it too when I was walking here. Global warming alert!” Ms. Carin exclaimed. Annabelle laughed and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “CHICKEN.” she said, her eyes growing wide. “You want to talk about a...chicken? Uh, ok.” Ms. Carin looked at her strangely. “No, a chicken!” exclaimed Annabelle. “....a chicken. Have you been in the heat too long? Is that the problem?” Ms. Carin looked at her worriedly. “NO!! There’s a chicken!!” exclaimed Annabelle. “Where?” Ms. Carin raised her eyebrows. “NO!!! THERE’S A CHICKEN RIGHT THERE!! ON THE TABLE!!” yelled Annabelle frantically. That made Ms. Carin look around. There really was a chicken!! On the back table!! “Oh my gosh, where did that come from?!” yelled Ms. Carin in shock. The chicken looked at them with buggy eyes and cocked its head to the side. “Bok, bok, bok, bok!” It squawked. Annabelle leaped back onto the chair in surprise and landed with a hard bump. Ms. Carin’s mouth was agape. “Kathleen, get it! It’s right in front of you!! Wait! No! Over to your right!! Wait, no!! Over to the left! Right in front of you!! No, no, no, other side!!” Annabelle tried to guide Ms. Carin as she leaped back and forth, right to left, trying to catch the chicken. “Right! Left! Front of you! Over there! Ugh, why can’t the chicken just stop moving!!” Annabelle shrieked. “Over here, chick chick! Let me catch you!!” Ms. Carin exclaimed. The chicken jumped away every time Ms. Carin got close and shrieked, “BOK, BOK, BOK!!!” It was a wild goose chase that knocked over chairs and tables. “CHICKEN, STAY STILL SO SHE CAN CATCH YOU!!!” Annabelle hollered. The fluttering chicken jumped to the left and Ms. Carin lunged at it, but it leaped to the right, and by then Ms. Carin had leaned too far in the left direction, so she face-planted on the floor with an, “Oomph.” The chicken bok-bokked, then jumped onto Annabelle’s lap facing the other way. Annabelle immediately closed her arms on the flapping chicken that squawked and clawed at her with its pointy feet. Feathers flew everywhere. Ms. Carin was still on the ground, groaning. “I won’t hurt you, just calm down, annoying chicken!” Annabelle exclaimed. “BOK, BOK, b-bok, bok bok…” the chicken calmed down. “Is it down yet?” Ms. Carin asked, even though she was still face planted on the carpet. “Yep!” Annabelle said cheerfully. “Great,” Ms. Carin groaned. “I can’t take anymore wild goose chases.” Annabelle laughed. “Get off the floor! We need to continue our talk! It’s already two o’ clock.” she teased Ms. Carin. “Only if we eat the lemon icebox cookies.” Ms. Carin mumbled. “All right, all right.” Annabelle smiled. “Well, in that case.” Ms. Carin popped right off the floor and walked over to sit on the couch. “I put them over there.” Annabelle said, pointing to the kitchen counter. “Ok, I’ll get them.” Ms. Carin rolled her eyes and smiled. She walked into the kitchen, got the plate of cookies, then went back. “Mmm, your lemon icebox cookies are the best!” Annabelle cheered, munching on a cookie. “Thank you, thank you.” Ms. Carin pretended to do a little curtsy. They laughed at her antics. “The cokes! We forgot them!” Ms. Carin reminded Annabelle. “I’ll get them this time.” Annadelle said, and launched off the couch to reach over the coffee table and got the melting cokes. “Hmm, still cold.” Ms. Carin said, inspecting the drink and taking a sip. “We’re not gonna let the chicken ruin our day! In fact, it’s still great.” Annabelle said. “By the way, where is the chicken?” Ms. Carin asked. They looked at each other. “Uh oh.”
The Kpop Queens Chapter 1: Rose’s Snack Problem “Lisa, we’re going shopping today!” Jennie exclaimed. “Yeah!” Lisa said cheerfully. “Aahhh!!!” A scream rang from the kitchen. “What was that?” Jennie asked. “C’mon, let’s find out.” Lisa said. They rushed to the kitchen. Rose turned to them with a sad and cute face. “There are no more snacks!” She sobbed. “Awww, Chaeyoung, we’ll buy some more at the market.” Lisa promised. “What’s all the fuss??” Jisoo entered the kitchen sleepily. “Jisoo-unnie, Rose wants more snacks.” Lisa told her. “Yeah, I saw a few ants coming,” Jisoo said. “Wait, Rose, did you leave crumbs on the floor again?” Jennie asked suspiciously. “Maybe.” Rose said stubbornly. “Aww, Rose, didn’t you know ants love food?” Jennie said. Kuma, Jennie’s puppy, suddenly bounded in the room and snarfed up a few bread crumbs. “And apparently, dogs love food too!” Lisa added. “Now, Chaeyoung, never leave crumbs on the floor again.” Jisoo said sternly. “Yes, Jisoo unnie.” Jennie and Lisa giggled. “From now on, Jisoo is the mommy!” Lisa declared. They all laughed. “Now, what snacks should we buy? Jennie, go first.” Jisoo ordered all mother-like. “Aiseukeulim. (Ice cream)” Jennie said in Korean. “French fries.” Lisa said. “Cheetos and chips,” Rose said, doing a happy dance. “And fruit,” Jisoo added. “I wrote all of that down.” “Chaeyoung, are you dreaming of dancing with snacks again?” Lisa teased. “Mmmm, nyum, nyum!” Rose dreamed, flapping her arms like a duck. “I guess she is.” Jennie said, awwing over Rose’s cute face. Lisa helped Rose to the counter when she started bawling over no snacks in the pantry and said, “I’ll give you some of my secret stash of snacks, okay?” Rose snuffled and nodded cheerfully. “Solo, i’ma do it on my own now, now that you’re alone, got you looking for a clone now. So low, that’s how I'm getting down, destined for this and the crown, sing loud like.” Jennie vocalized. “Whoo, whoo!” Lisa whooped when she entered the kitchen and heard Jennie singing. She held her secret thing behind her back and gave it to Rose. “Yay! Snacks!” Chaeyoung said happily. “You can eat it during our trip to the new market downtown. I’ll make us all lunch. Want to come with me, Jennie?” Lisa said to Rose, then turned to Jennie. “Sure!” Jennie hopped off the chair and went to the kitchen with Lisa. “Thanks, Lisa!” Rose called from the living room. “You’re welcome!” Lisa called back. “I know Jisoo likes kimchi too with ramen. Let’s make that.” Jennie suggested. “Yeah, kimchi with ramen!” Lisa said. “Let’s see, we don’t have the ingredients to ferment the kimchi cabbage, so let's use hot water and salt, with a little cayenne pepper and chile pepper powder.” Jennie said, opening spice cabinets. “I’ll make kimchi and you can make ramen.” Lisa said. “Okay.” Jennie started getting a pack of ramen noodles. Lisa washed the cabbage and heated up some water. Jennie dumped the noodles in hot water and added some spices. Chopping the fresh cabbage with one hand, Lisa prepared to put it in the hot water. Jennie salted the noodles and poured the spicy ramen and soup in a big bowl. Lisa flicked some water off her hands and carefully cascaded a stream of cayenne pepper and chile powder on the boiling hot cabbage. “I’ll help you with that.” Jennie offered, taking a piece of cabbage. “La, la, chop it and dump it in the water with spice, la, la!” She sang. Rose came walking in the kitchen and surprise-hugged both Jennie and Lisa. “Did you know that the camera filmed you guys cooking?” She whispered to Lisa. “Well, we always have cameras on us.” Lisa whispered back. “What’re you guys whispering about?” Jennie asked curiously. “The camera,” Rose informed her. “Look, it’s watching you.” Lisa said. Jennie did a little dance for the camera. Lisa and Chaeyoung giggled. “Your turn, Lisa.” Jennie said. The camera faced Lisa as she imitated Jennie. Chapter 2: Lunch and then to Dance and Singing “Jisoooooo, time for lunch!” Lisa sang off key. “Okay, but no more singing.” Jisoo warned as she came down the stairs. “Kick it if you’re down, kick it if you’re down.” Lisa sang. “Much better. And you remember the lyrics.” Rose said coming into the kitchen. Jennie set the ramen bowl and kimchi bowl down on the dining table. “It looks so good.” Jisoo flicked her tongue out of her mouth and pretended to lick the ramen. “Jisoo, where’s my phone?” Lisa asked. “Upstairs.'' Jisoo kept pretending to lick and stared at the food hungrily. “Jisoo, wait for Lisa to come back.” Lisa was upstairs, looking for her phone and spotted it buried in her bed. “Hmm, I’ll play How You like That.” She typed on her phone quickly, and headed back downstairs with her phone. “Which song of ours are you playing?” Rose asked, hearing the music. “How You Like That.” Lisa replied. “Come over here, the food’s getting cold.” Jisoo called. “I’m hungry,” Rose said. “We should go eat.” “We made ramen and kimchi.” Lisa said to her, both of them heading to the dining room. “Mmm, that sounds good.” Jisoo said, as they entered the kitchen. “This smells good,” Jennie said, and sorted the bowls, putting lots of spicy noodles and kimchi in each bowl. “We have to eat up, because we have dance practice today.” “We’ll go shopping after we do the dance practice,” Lisa said. “Then we’ll get the snacks.” They sat down. “This is soooooo good.” Rose said, placing spicy and hot ramen noodles in her mouth, relishing the flavor. “Mhm.” Lisa agreed. She ate a big kimchi piece. “You guys were right about liking kimchi and ramen.” Jisoo said agreeably. Jennie said nothing, only eating and slurping. “Chhmm, chhmm, chhmm.” Her teeth crunched and bit through the spicy food. “Jennie, you’re eating really fast,” Lisa said. “Eat slowly.” “Ok, chhmm, chhmm, chhmm.” Jennie said, still chewing a mouthful of food. Rose slurped the rest of her ramen slowly and swallowed the warm soup. “Play Pretty Savage, please.” She said to Lisa. “Ok.” Lisa typed in Pretty Savage on her phone. She skipped it to Rose’s part of the song. “Pretty girl, 웃어주기만 마냥 약해진, and I wish you would, 않아비바람이 불수록 더 높이 날아, I got nothin' left to say to you, 원하면 보여줄게 attitude, 굳이 말 안 해도 다 알잖아, You know.” The video played. They all TRIED, at least, to sing the song. Rose was the best, because of course, she was the one who sang it in the song. “Lisa, the time for dance practice is NOW!!!” Jisoo exclaimed. “Wait, what?!! Oh, no! I didn’t check the time!” Lisa said hurriedly. “Yahhhhh!” Jennie and the others charged toward the door. “Come on!” Jisoo said, gesturing to the car. They all quickly buckled and drove to the dance studio. “Why were you late?” Ms. Kim asked. “Sorry, we lost track of time.” Lisa apologized. “Alright,” Ms. Kim sighed. “Let’s start.”
Chapter 3: Singing When they were finished with dance practice, they walked over to the singing room. “Let’s start with Pretty Savage,” Ms. Euna, the singing teacher, said to the girls. “Rose, practice your part.” “Sure. Pretty girl, 웃어주기만 마냥 약해진, and I wish you would, 않아비바람이 불수록 더 높이 날아, I got nothin' left to say to you, 원하면 보여줄게 attitude, 굳이 말 안 해도 다 알잖아, You know.” Rose sang her part of the song. “Good job.” Ms. Euna said approvingly. The singing practice lasted for an hour and they finally walked out the stuffy room. “Shopping!” Jennie cheered. “Woo hoo!” Lisa said happily. “And don’t forget the snacks.” Rose added. “Nope, we didn’t forget!” Jisoo laughed. “Yeah!” Lisa said. They drove to the market. “Jennie! The lady won’t give me a discount!” Lisa said an hour later. Jennie hurried over to help Lisa. “Please??🥺” Jennie said in a cute little mouse voice. “All right.” The lady sighed. Lisa politely said thank you and took her cute cotton sweater. “I got a shirt with a sun on it and a dress.”Jennie told Lisa. “Oooooohhh!!” Lisa said, interested. “Guys, look! I got my cheetos, my apples, and my hot cocoa packets!!” Rose hurried over, dragging a chicken wing-deprived Jisoo over to them. “Nooooooo, chicken wings. They didn’t have any chicken wings.” Jisoo pouted. “Awwwwwwwww.” Lisa wrapped them into a group hug. “Jisoo, I got some chicken wings earlier. Here.” Lisa pulled a few packages of chicken wings out of her bag and gave them to Jisoo. “YAY!” Jisoo immediately brightened up. They laughed. Back at home, Jisoo piled up in her blankets and pulled Jennie in with her. “Nyum nyum.”Jennie made a noise. Lisa hopped onto the bed energetically and joined them, pulling the covers up. Rose skipped happily into the room, holding a tray of four mugs of steaming hot chocolate. “Mmmmmmmm.”Jisoo smelled the chocolatey aroma. “I brought hot chocolate!” Rose sang, making a cute face. “YAY!!” Lisa scrambled out of bed energetically and jumped over to Rose. She took a cup of hot chocolate and sipped it. “Hot, hot, HOT.” Lisa hung her tongue out. “Can I have one too?” Jennie asked. “Ok.” Rose said, and handed a cup to Jennie and Jisoo. “Yummy.” Jennie smiled really big. They all snuggled in the bed and drank hot chocolate in the sparkling, starry night.
Land Of Wonders
Chapter 1 - Having a Nice Day One day, Sophia was walking down a hill. Suddenly, she turned around because her sister, Tamarind, was calling her. "I wonder what she is saying?" Sophia wondered.
"Hmmm, I bet she is just saying that I need to pick more berries."
"Sophia!" Tamarind said when Sophia ran up to her. "You need to pick more berries from the vineyard."
"Just like I thought," Sophia said aloud to herself. With a sigh, she headed to the vineyard. Meanwhile, their third sister was taking lessons from their mom to hold a spoon and feed herself porridge.
"Mom, can I go and visit Little Red Riding Hood?" asked Sophia after she picked the berries.
"Yes, you can, honey," replied Mom. "Have a nice day!"
Sophia got on her sleek horse who was named Shera and rode her to Red's cottage. "Hi, Red!" Sophia said. Red was taking a lot of deep breaths because she almost knocked over her glass of juice made of berries from the Forgotten Forest.
"Calm down!" said Sophia. "This is not a very big calamity."
"Yes it is!" insisted Red. Suddenly the door burst open. "Aaaah!" screamed Red.
In came a messenger from Goldilocks. "Goldilocks said that I should inform you that a kingdom is on fire! Everyone is panicking!"
"Which kingdom and where did it start?" asked Sophia.
"The Eastern Kingdom and I don't know how you can be so calm when there is fire," said the messenger.
"OUCH!" complained Red. "That was my foot you stepped on!"
"Sorry, Red," apologized Sophia.
"Red Riding Hood is going to stay here and Sophia is going to follow me," said the messenger.
"Hey, who said you make the rules?" said Red. Too late, Sophia and the messenger were on their horses and were galloping to the mountains.
"What are we going to do?" asked Sophia.
"We are going to get something from the Mist Maids," said the messenger. The horses came to a sudden stop when they got there.
The floor was covered with vines that intended to slip someone when they wanted to. The mountain tops were covered with glittery snow and beautiful, swirling mist.
"Wow, that is beautiful," remarked Sophia.
The place was immense and chilly. They trudged up and down the mountains and at last, they found the mist maids.
"Hurry, we need to do this quickly," said the messenger. "Time can be scarce now."
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" asked one of the Mist Maids.
She had midnight colored hair, pale blue clothes made out of mist silk, dark blue slippers, and pale skin.
"We are here to get some sea mist from you," said the messenger.
Another Mist Maid retrieved something from her pocket and gave it to the messenger. It was a vial with swirling sea mist inside it.
"Thank you!" said Sophia. "You're welcome," said the Mist Maid.
Chapter 2 - Fire! "What is your name?" Sophia asked the messenger after they had gotten the sea mist.
"My name is Maya," said Maya.
They walked down the mountain and got on their horses. Maya told Sophia that her horse was named Shaya. Once they got to the Eastern Kingdom, they took out some special water named Wake and mixed it with the sea mist so it formed a fire formula. The fire formula's color was a purplish blue. They separated the formula into 2 small vials and poured it everywhere. The fire slowly began to shrink. Finally, it completely stopped.
"Hooray!" everybody cheered.
Sophia and Maya smiled at each other. Sophia went back to Red's cottage and when she came inside, she asked, "Can I have some berry juice, please?"
Red handed her some juice in a flask. After Sophia recovered, she started to practice archery and exercises until she was so tired that she was laying on the ground and panting. While no one was looking, a patch of strange-looking weeds and thorny, rough vines started to grow when no one was looking. That was until someone noticed. He had bright blue eyes, brown hair, and was wearing pants, a blouse, white socks, a coat, and sturdy brown leather boots.
"How strange!" he thought.
Meanwhile, Red asked her to pick more berries. Sophia walked into the forest and found herself lost. She found an enormous willow tree in the middle of the forest. It was the heart of the forest! It had long curvy branches with green sweeping long ropes of willow. The bark was rough and sturdy but it was also smooth like paper. As Sophia ran her fingers across the tree trunk, the tree started to glow with light. Suddenly Sophia saw a sheet of paper lying on the ground. She picked it up and read, "This tree was made when this world's ancestors were all bonded together. Their friendship was indestructible so they created this tree to represent the world and how important nature was. It is meant to protect nature and its beauty so the world can enjoy it. It cannot be destroyed unless someone performs an act of true hatred, ambition, and carelessness.
"How?" she started to say after she read it. She was interrupted by a loud, rumbling noise. It was coming from the tree! A large cloud of wind was starting to turn into a portal.
"What?" gasped Sophia. She was being sucked into the portal! But before she shouted "Help!" she got sucked into the portal completely. The next thing she knew, she was falling out of the sky. She landed feet first on the ground. "Where am I?" she wondered.
"Hey kid, are you from the Nature Wake Academy?" a tall kind-looking woman said to her.
Chapter 3 - A New Place "No, I have not been there. Miss. Umm what is your name?" asked Sophia.
"My name is Katherine, but you can call me Miss Kathy," she said. "I can take you to Nature Wake Academy."
And the next thing she saw was herself being escorted to the academy. They saw birds chirping on a branch, little ponds of sparkling, blue water with watery mud and tiny flowers on the sides and edges, fruit trees, and fields of damp grassy earth on the way. When they got there, Miss Kathy opened the doors and whispered, "Let's walk quietly so we don't disturb them."
The principal was walking down the hall when she spotted them. "Good morning, Miss Kathy. And you are?" Pointing her finger to Sophia.
"Sophia Currant, Miss Stonekirk. Can we go outside again?" asked Sophia.
"Yes," said Miss Kathy.
Sophia was planning to clean the garden and grow new plants to replace them so the garden was tidy. So she did. After she cleaned the garden, they went into town and explored the shops. First, they went to Celina's Cafe and got two cups of tea that looked particularly rose colored and warm. Then they went to Weapon World. Sophia got a simple silver bow and 500 arrows that turned anyone bad good when they hit them. Miss Kathy got a dagger and a shield. They walked down Flurry Alley, but they didn't see that someone was watching and following them. Miss Kathy told her that they were going to be sorted into different groups. The groups were Determination, Braving, Lover, Friendshipfame, and Active. They went to a grotto with vines covering the front. The vines were like a miniature waterfall that had steaming water.
Inside the grotto, it would seem to be damp and dark but suddenly it lit up with a thousand torches. Now that they could see, the floor was very smooth like marble, the walls were covered with picture stories of the groups long ago, there was a nymph sitting on a tree and as soon as she spotted them she said, "Come here, Sophia Currant," the nymph said. "You belong to Friendshipfame. I will show you where your common room is. I know you have valuable friendship."
Chapter 4 - Making New Friends As Sophia entered the common room, she saw rugs of all sizes and colors covering the floor, a big wall of paintings that had dark and bright colors, a fireplace, pattern adorned armchairs (with cushions), 30 bookshelves, many pots of plants of all sorts, hand-woven blankets, and mugs of jasmine and rose tea. She picked up a blanket and a book and sat in an armchair to read. After a while, her eyes started to droop and she fell asleep. When she woke up, a girl was shaking her lightly on the shoulder. "Do you want to practice battling people?"
"Sure, but first what is your name?" asked Sophia.
"My name is Cadra Currant," Cadra said.
"What!" gasped Sophia. "My name is Sophia Currant! Does that mean we're related?" she asked.
"Maybe, but come on we need to practice," Cadra said.
They went out of the common room and entered the battling room. Several people were already there and were holding wooden sticks and practicing. They both put on Friendshipfame uniforms so they would be recognized as students. Cadra flipped Sophia over her shoulder but Sophia did a triple back-flip so she didn't land on her bottom. They continued flipping, blocking, and striking until it was dinner time. The dining table was holding chicken, pork, beef, fish caught by Active members, chili with beans, bread and cheesy crackers, soft flaky crepes with vegetables and sauce, salads, noodle soup, stew, vegetable and mushroom soup, yams, potatoes, curry and rice. Once they were finished, dessert appeared out of thin air.
Once they were finished eating dessert, Sophia went back to the common room and selected a book called Weaknesses.
"Cadra, come over here. I found a book called Weaknesses. I think it will help us learn where to strike first and defeat enchantresses and those kinds of things," she said.
"Page one, ch-. Hey I've seen this mark before! It was on a tree in the forest!" said Cadra. "Do you want to explore the forest at night and find that tree?"
"Okay, but only when nobody's looking," Sophia answered.
After the conversation, Sophia made a new friend. Her new friend was called Adora and she was also from Friendshipfame. They became very close friends.
Chapter 5 - Secrets At night, Sophia, Cadra, and Adora snuck out of the grotto and went into the forest. (They had decided that Adora would be useful). The owls were hooting and flying.
"This place gives me the creeps," said Sophia.
They walked into a large clearing that was deserted. In the middle, there was a strange-looking statue made of air. The statue was covered with a sheet of swirling, transparent-floating, and smooth Wake water. There was a plaque on the statue that read "This is a place where ancestors were, for a full moon shone on a true, fair heir. She came from the Currant name, but got lost in no fame. The Waking Well you will find a stone heart, from a nymph who suffered from a breaking start. A celebrity you will need who has too much fame, her glass that is her treasure will be your game. Search for the person Sophia, and bring any two metals from her by Adora."
"What does that mean?" Cadra asked.
Meanwhile, back at the academy, everyone was sleeping soundly well. A hall checker was walking up and down the halls mumbling to himself. "Strange," he said. "I thought I heard something."
In the forest, Sophia was figuring out the puzzle "So the first part is about finding a stone heart from a nymph and the second is about a glass treasure from a celebrity."
"But the Waking Well (her voice faltered), we don't know where that is," Cadra said.
"But we do," said an unfamiliar voice behind them.
Adora shrieked with fright and Cadra spun around, pointing her dagger. But when they did, no one was there.
"Alright, please come out whoever you are," Sophia said.
A floating spirit man and woman transformed from mist to people. The woman said, "We are the Spiritual Pair but first, let's introduce ourselves. I am Rosetta and he is Norban. What are your names, children?"
"Our names are Sophia Currant. Cadra is my sister and that is Adora Pollendole. We were just figuring out the puzzle when you said, 'But we do,'" Sophia said. Just then, the moon rose up. The whole sky lit with sparkling stars and the moonlight. The starry sky twinkled like sunlight. Everything so far was better than ever tonight.
Chapter 6 - Spirit People "Can you show us the way to the Waking Well?" Sophia asked Rosetta.
"Yes," she answered. "But you need to pass a test to earn our trust."
"What kind of test?" Adora asked.
"A test where you have to answer with correct or not correct so we can know if you're bad or good," Norban said. "These are the questions. Do you like making poison or brewing good potions? Do you like planting Asphodel flowers or Poison Ivy? Do you care for animals or screech at them like monkeys?"
"Let's see. We like brewing good potions, planting Asphodel, and caring for animals," Cadra said. And they were off, exploring the wild and looking for the Waking Well.
"Hey I'm cold and thirsty," whispered a shivering Adora.
"Well lucky you. I brought a thermos full of jasmine tea!" exclaimed Sophia. "And I also brought blankets, apples, oatmeal cookies, weapons, a safety kit, and magic bubbles that pop over ourselves and can shrink and expand."
"Wow, can we drink some tea and snuggle in the blankets?" said Adora.
"What?" she caught Cadra looking at her with disbelief.
They were in the woods by now. And a soft breeze was blowing. So they decided to take a break because they were tired and cold. They sat down on a little clearing with cherry trees, lots of blossoms, and a little pool of clean water. Adora and Cadra both drank tea while Sophia picked the largest and juiciest cherries she could find so that they could eat them on the trip. She washed them in the pool of water and put them into a jar.
"Thanks for the tea, Sophia. It really warmed me up," said Adora.
They stood up and started walking deeper into the woods. Rosetta showed them a secret path that was invisible to anyone who did not have at least one spirit person. At last, they saw a well that had spirals bursting across it and blue and white vines that were thickly woven to make a top. They searched for the stone heart but could not find it. "Uuuuugghh," Cadra groaned. "We are never going to find it." She sat on the ground and did not see that she had sat on a shimmering button. A part of a spiral fell out and it made a loud "Thump!" when it hit the ground.
Chapter 7 - A Stone Heart Cadra picked it up and said, "Hey guys, I think I found something. It looks like... some sort of spiraled brick."
Adora and Sophia both came dashing over and nearly tumbled into each other while they ran. Cadra turned the brick over and saw a oval shaped heart inside it. Sophia shrieked with delight and said, "Let's try to pull it out!"
So they pulled and pulled and pulled, but they still couldn't pull it out. They tried again but they still couldn't pull it out. Adora sighed with disappointment and accidentally sat on it. Because Adora weighed a lot, a crack started to form in the middle of the brick, separating one side from the other side.
"Look what happened when you sat on it, Adora!" said Cadra in an excited voice.
"I need a sharp rock to cut the brick out more open," said Sophia.
"I'll get one for you," said Adora. She found a sharp rock and placed it in Sophia's palm. Sophia studied the brick and suddenly jabbed it with the sharp rock into one of the more open cracks. They came across a little river that had trees lined up on the edge and rich soil and grass. She dug it until the brick was split in half.
"We did it!" cried Cadra and she started hopping around the well repeatedly shrieking "Yes!"
"Now that we found the stone heart, we can start to find the glass treasure, guys," said Adora cheerfully. Then they started to walk south because that was where the celebrity lived. They came across a little stream. There were trees planted on the outsides of the stream and grass, dirt, and mud in straight lines and circles.
"Wow, this is well, wild," marveled Adora.
Chapter 8 - The Wild By then, it was midday and the sun was shining brightly down towards them. It was scalding hot like the desert. "It is so hot!" grumbled Adora. Beads of sweat were dripping down their faces.
"I wish it was sprinkling," Cadra said looking at the sky longingly.
Almost immediately, it began to sprinkle. "Did you just do what I think you did?" asked Sophia.
"Now I wish it was just warm," said Cadra, ignoring Sophia. The weather turned warm and cozy.
"I think I can control the weather!" Cadra said, her voice turning from surprised to excited. Sophia suddenly smelled a smell that hung in the air. She turned to Cadra and said, "I think I smell something. It smells . . .raw."
"Raw? I think you are cuckoo crazy," Cadra said, wrinkling her nose in disgust.
"I'm n-," Sophia started to say but was interrupted by a low deep growl. Adora, Cadra, and Sophia turned around to see a wolf with light brown and white fur, light amber eyes, and furry ears. Petrified by the wolf, Cadra and Adora backed away but Sophia just stood there and said, "Come here. Come here. I'm not going to hurt you."
The wolf hesitated but took a few steps toward her and Sophia stroked the wolf's furry head. The wolf gestured to the tall grass behind it and a little wolf cub emerged out from the grass and walked slowly towards them. Sophia noticed that the little wolf cub was limping because it had a bloody mangled hurt paw. The little wolf cub walked over to Sophia and held its hurt paw to her. "That must hurt," Sophia said. She turned the wolf cubs paw over and saw that there was a thorn stuck in it.
"Sophia, why are you helping the little wolf cub?" Cadra asked.
"Because I know what it is like when you are hurt badly and there is no one to help you get better," Sophia replied. Sophia ripped a piece of cloth from a blanket and took a bottle of water from her backpack and soaked the piece of cloth with water. She gently rubbed it around the wound to wash the blood away and said to the wolf cub, "This might hurt because I'm going to pull the thorn out of your paw."
Chapter 9 - Pets Sophia pulled the thorn out of the little wolf cub's paw quickly so it wouldn't hurt too much. She took the wet piece of cloth and wrapped it around the wolf cub's paw like a bandage. Adora suddenly said, "I've got it! You can keep the wolf cub and the wolf as pets, Sophia!"
"Ok, but then I'm going to name you Amber," she said to the wolf. "And you Butterscotch," she said to the little wolf cub.
"Cute! Amber and Butterscotch are pretty good names, Sophia," Cadra said to her.
While Sophia was helping Butterscotch, Cadra and Adora had thought about Sophia's words and decided to help her because she had already helped them many times. They had gotten out two medium-sized towels, clean water, and a tiny bottle of flower perfume Adora had made on the trip to the Waking Well.
"Sophia, let's give Amber and Butterscotch a bath," Adora advised.
Cadra washed Amber's fur and Adora washed Butterscotch's fur. Sophia had made some herb leaf ointments and medicines and had put them in vials. She made those medicines and ointments to heal people and make them feel better.
"Cadra, give Amber some medicine and gently rub some ointment across her fur because I saw some serious-looking cuts and bruises on her body," Sophia said.
Cadra poured a small amount of medicine into Amber's mouth and let a portion of ointment drip onto Amber's body. Adora was still busy washing Butterscotch and Cadra was busy rubbing ointment on Amber. So Sophia grabbed a pouch of tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, and spices, a thermos of clean water, a package of raw beef, leaves, and fruit. She went into a nearby clearing and started to make some food. She wasn't very experienced at cooking but she had taught herself to cook a little at least. When she was done, Cadra and Adora were almost done and finished just as Sophia came back. "I'm back and look at what I've made!" Sophia announced.
"Thanks, Sophia!" Cadra and Adora exclaimed.
Sophia separated the food into bowls and they ate the food. Every person and animal had got a bowl of steaming vegetable soup, a salad made of lettuce, celery, and little leaves that were edible, a plate of cooked meat (mostly meant for Amber and Butterscotch), and a bowl of neatly cut fruit.
Chapter 10 - A Celebrity After they ate their lunch, they started to walk south again. After a short walk, they reached the celebrity's mansion. Butterscotch had gotten a bit tired from walking long distances and began to get further and further away from the group. Sophia noticed and retrieved a medium-sized cloth, sturdy/soft leaves, a quarter-open sphere bowl, some cut open apples, a hollow yellow thread, a stitching needle, very sturdy sticks, a tiny pillow with white fluffy stuffing, another cloth, and a stuffy doll from her backpack. She told Cadra to weave the leaves together with the thread and put the cut apples into the sphere bowl. She also told Adora to put the stuffing onto a cloth and tie a knot on it, and herself to weave a little carrier out of the sticks and tie the other cloth onto a spot at the top of the carrier. She put all of the others inside and started to organize sections that she could put the things in. When she was finished, she put Butterscotch inside the carrier. "There," she said, finally satisfied with what she had done.
"I am so nervous," Adora said suddenly and they all did a little jump.
"You scared me!" said Sophia. Cadra and Adora didn't answer, they were too busy gaping at her. Sophia looked down and shrieked loudly. She was floating in the air!
"Wwwwwwwwhhhaaattttt! I can fly?", Sophia said.
Adora was staring enviously at Sophia and Cadra and after a moment she said, "You guys get to fly and control the weather and what do I get? Nothing! Hmph!" She crossed her arms and pouted.
"Aw, don't worry, Adora. You'll get your powers soon," Sophia cooed.
"You're just saying that because you already got your powers," Adora said, sticking her tongue out.
Cadra got so annoyed and angry at them bickering that she yelled "STOP BICKERING THIS INSTANT! IT IS VERY ANNOYING! DO YOU KNOW THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE NEARBY?! THEY CAN STILL HEAR THINGS!!!". Adora and Sophia looked down shamefully at their hands and both apologized to her. Amber nuzzled Sophia's legs with her head to comfort her after what had just happened.
They walked onto a garden and saw a woman planting flower seeds in a patch of soil. They walked up to the woman and Adora said, "Hi. What is your name?" "My name is Elvera Mendos.", Elvera said.
"I always imagined you having styled hair, wearing dresses and jewelry, and (no offence) having a snooty accent.", said Cadra.
"What are you here for?", asked Elvera.
Sophia hesitated before asking, "Do you have a glass treasure?"
"Yes,", Elvera answered, "and it is my most precious treasure because my family has passed it down from generation to generation. But I must do a good deed before I pass it along to my daughter."
"It would be a good deed if you gave it to us,", Sophia suggested, "because it has been in your family for a long time and maybe it is your turn to pass it on to another family." Elvera decided that passing it on to another family would be a good decision. She gave it to Adora and told her to take care of it at all costs.
Chapter 11 - Friends Forever For dinner, Sophia had made bowls of steaming hot tomato soup with white bread to dip in the soup. They were all tired from the exciting day and went to sleep in their sleeping bags. Except Sophia was air-sleeping (hovering in the air while sleeping) plus Sophia was sleeping in the air while holding Butterscotch's carrier and she had made a backpack that Amber could go into. When Adora woke up, she went to her backpack and got some washed berries and apples out to eat as breakfast. She eventually went to wake up Sophia but when she got to her spot it was empty.
Suddenly a voice behind her said, "Let's go back to the Statue now." It was Sophia and she was doing flips in circles. They woke up Cadra and Sophia gave them shoe pads to put under their shoes and told them that the shoes pads could make them fly and talk to each other in their minds so they could get to the Statue quicker. They soared above the clouds and started to fly towards their destination. When they got to the Statue, instead of Norbert and Rosetta, there was a scarlet dragon staring at them with steam coming out of its nostrils. The dragon was massive and had a line of spikes on its back. Sophia flew around and around the dragon, making it dizzy but the dragon reached out and almost whacked her with its claw. Cadra made a perfectly normal cloud above the dragon turn into a storm cloud. A bolt of lightning appeared out of the cloud and struck the dragon. The dragon stumbled, giving Adora the chance to set the dragon on fire. The dragon burned into ashes right before their eyes. They went to the Statue and placed the glass treasure and the stone heart on the steps of the pedestal. The stone heart and the glass melted together and floated towards the Statue to form the last part of the statue.
Sophia, Cadra, and Adora stood back to admire the statue. And they all hugged.
